The Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, and the General Director of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior, Virginia Barcones, have today signed the agreement that gives the Government Delegation a vehicle to improve mobility and facilitate work in the civil protection of the Archipelago.
The signature of the agreement to change the destination of movable property, a Nissan Pick-UP vehicle, has taken place at the headquarters of the Government Delegation in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria within the framework of the objectives of the General Directorate of Civil Protection and Emergencies to promote the activities that public institutions carry out in this field, providing the same material means according to their availability.
In this sense, the agreement signed today by Anselmo Pestana and Virginia Barcones contemplates the need to provide autonomous means of locomotion to the different technicians involved in the management and planning of Civil Protection, in this case in the territory of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.
“First of all, I would like to thank the General Director not only for the transfer of this vehicle, but also for her commitment and involvement in the civil protection work carried out in the Canary Islands, which is only the result of the needs of a particular territory, subject to the most diverse geological, orographic and meteorological junctures. Virginia Barcones has been a delegate of the Government and knows from within the work that is done in its Civil Protection Units and this agreement demonstrates her interest in improving and streamlining her work,” says Anselmo Pestana.
“Together with thanks to the General Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior, I would like to convey the commitment of this Government Delegation to make the best, most efficient and necessary use of this vehicle, so that it is always available to citizens and their security in the areas of the Archipelago where it is most needed. If from Madrid there is a commitment to the whole territory through the Government Delegations, from here there is a commitment to all corners of the Canary Islands, for the prevention of risks and for the protection of the environment and the safety of people. We’re still working on it,” he adds.
As the Director General of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior said during the event, it is about “facilitating the work of the Civil Protection Unit with a high-capacity vehicle for transporting people and material, and mobility through rough terrain. The use of this vehicle will be very useful for the unit and for Civil Protection technicians.”
