The Government delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, and the mayor of Telde, Juan Antonio Peña, held a meeting today at the headquarters of the Government Delegation in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where they have expressed their willingness to continue with the institutional and police collaboration developed so far to continue guaranteeing the security of the municipality.
The meeting was also attended by the Superior Chief of Police of the Canary Islands, Jesús María Gómez, the Provincial Chief Commissioner of Las Palmas of National Police, Francisco Javier Berzal, the Chief Commissioner of the Local Police Station of Telde, Javier Jiménez, and the Head of the Local Police of the City of Telde, Félix Ramos.
Both the government delegate in the Canary Islands, representing the Government of Spain, and the mayor of Telde, representing the municipal corporation, have agreed on the great work that both forces and security forces are carrying out, while they have reviewed the figures of National Police personnel in the area, which, with data from March 2024, amounts to 331 agents of the 337 available places.
According to data from the Secretary of State for Security of the Ministry of the Interior, from the end of 2017 and until March 2024, at the end of 2017 there was an occupation of 87% of the catalog of National Police places in Telde, 11 percentage points lower than the 98% recorded last March.
“Today’s meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere between the two administrations, with a consensus in the analysis of the situation of Telde, where there may be specific episodes that generate a feeling of citizen insecurity, but where the National Police is very present, more present than in years ago, even”, says the government delegate in the Canary Islands.
“I want to transfer to the authorities of Telde, and also to the neighbors and neighbors of the municipality, that the Government of Spain has among its priorities in Gran Canaria to maintain security in one of the most important municipalities on the island, particularly in terms of population volume. Since police officers are the group of public employees with the highest replacement rate in recent years at 125%, we have never left Telde behind in the presence of the National Police”, he adds.
For his part, the mayor of Telde declares that “this meeting has served to communicate our availability to collaborate with the Government Delegation, as well as to thank the heads of the National Police for their work in Telde, with the increase of units in the city. In this regard, we are proud of the perfect collaboration between the National Police and the Local Police.”
“We have built bridges between both administrations to continue working in a single direction that guarantees stability within the municipality. On behalf of the local government that I represent, we have demonstrated to the delegate our spirit to collaborate, with the aim of transferring the spirit of tranquility and peace to the citizens,” he adds.
