The Subdelegate of the Government in Las Palmas, Teresa Mayans, has today accompanied the students of the IES Baddseros Cipriano Acosta in the recreation at the headquarters of the Delegation of the Government in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria of the parliamentary debate of 1931 that preceded the approval of the female vote in Spain.
This representation, which took place in the Throne Room and was attended by some 80 students from Gran Canaria, is part of the activities organized by the Government Delegation and its seven island venues on the occasion of International Women’s Day, 8M.
“This struggle of women to achieve real and effective equality continues. And to mentalize young people that the rights achieved are not achieved forever and that there is still a long way to go is a pedagogical act that we have to make fit”, says the subdelegate of the Government in Las Palmas.
“Not only was the women’s vote difficult, but figures such as Clara Campoamor and Victoria Kent appeared in the education curricula the day before yesterday and we are still fighting for the curricula to be full of women who achieved important things,” says Nereida Yanez, professor and coordinator of the Equality Axis of the IES Baddseros Cipriano Acosta center.
For her part, Calíope Berriel, a First Baccalaureate student from the same educational center and who has played Clara Campoamor in the recreation, recognizes that she was surprised “by the arguments and the very impressive speeches given by Clara Campoamor and Victoria Kent”.
