The Delegation of the Government of Spain in Asturias, the Government of the Principality of Asturias and the municipalities, through the Asturian Federation of Councils (FACC), coordinate a special device on the occasion of the total solar eclipse that will be observed on August 12. More than 1,300 troops will be deployed throughout the territory so that this extraordinary event takes place in conditions of security and fluidity of mobility.
On Wednesday, the second plenary meeting was held to finalize the special coordinated mechanism for Asturias, after months of inter-ministerial work by the Government of Spain and constant collaboration between the Government Delegation, the Government of the Principality and the municipalities.
For the eclipse of August 12, the Secretary of State for Security of the Ministry of the Interior has prepared a Special Security Plan with common guidelines for the planning, coordination and temporary reinforcement of the operational measures of the State Security Forces and Corps, which will strengthen their presence in Asturias. Specifically, 358 officers of the Civil Guard and 235 of the National Police will ensure the good development of the day.
Likewise, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection and Emergencies has prepared a Specific Plan of Civil Protection for this event, which establishes the common framework of planning and response from the coordination between administrations.
In the autonomous area, the device will be composed of 120 SEPA professionals, with 100 members of the fire parks, 14 people destined to reinforce the room of 112 and 6 specialists in civil protection, telecommunications and coordination. This deployment will be joined by 500 volunteers from the municipal Civil Protection and Red Cross groups, as well as 75 Natural Environment agents, who will strengthen the monitoring and protection of natural spaces.
In addition, the Territorial Plan of Civil Protection of the Principality (PLATERPA) will be activated in the alert phase, which is scheduled for a new meeting this Thursday to continue adapting the inter-agency coordination measures.
MOBILITY
Citizen collaboration is essential for the day to be a collective success. Therefore, a call is made for prudence and responsibility. Whenever possible, it is recommended to observe the eclipse from home or nearby places and avoid unnecessary displacements. In case of travel, it is advisable to use public transport and if you are going to use the car you need to attend the indications of Traffic and the authorities.
From the DGT, the surveillance in the main road network of the autonomous community and the supervision of the circulation in the traffic management center will be strengthened. Also from the General Directorate of the Merchant Navy, recommendations have been issued for recreational boats on the occasion of the eclipse.
For its part, the Government of the Principality has prepared a special mobility device for observation points with general reinforcement of services, more expeditions, vehicles of greater capacity and extension of schedules. Thus, the launchers of the program ‘Enjoy the summer, we will take you’ extend the schedule and the regular lines will be reinforced towards the areas with the greatest tourist influx, especially the coastal places.
In addition, the metropolitan services will be extended until 01.00 hours in the central area (Oviedo/UviéuGijón/Xixón-Avilés) and associated corridors such as Gijón/XixónCandaisLluanco/Luanco, as well as the Piedras White-Avilés line that serves Salinas. WEAR APPROVED GLASSES
To enjoy the eclipse it is essential to attend to health recommendations and use approved glasses. Since the Government of the Principality, more than 50,000 glasses have already been distributed and will continue to be distributed in the coming days. There is a delivery point in the Asturias pavilion of the International Exhibition Fair (FIDMA) and also in the offices of Tourism and RENA.
