On the occasion of World Cancer Day, the delegate of the Government in Asturias, Adriana Lastra, has met with representatives of associations and agencies involved in the fight against this disease, both from a health and research perspective and from the support of patients.
In 2024, 7,527 cases of cancer were diagnosed in Asturias, 290,441 throughout the country. The Government of Spain reaffirms its commitment to the prevention, research and improvement of patient care. For example, Spain is above the European Commission’s target of 90 percent vaccination coverage to prevent HPV cancer. Progress is also being made in the construction of a European Network of National Comprehensive Cancer Centres that will improve the model of care for cancer patients. And the government is in the advanced stages of working to have a cancer surveillance system within the State Public Health Surveillance Network.
