The delegate of the Government, Adriana Lastra, has intervened in the institutional act of the Holy Guardian Angels, skippers of the National Police, after attending the Holy Mass in the Basilica of San Juan el Real in Oviedo.
In her speech, the first as delegate of the Government to this festivity, Lastra stressed that since she was appointed she has had the opportunity to “know” the National Police better and confirm what it meant, that they are “admirable” and that they have earned “deservedly” the rest and the trust of the citizens and institutions. “You are the main line of defense against the threats that compromise our security,” said the delegate of the Government before thanking the agents for their work, “who without making noise, guarantee that life in community can develop normally, in peace and with justice.”
In this sense, he has claimed the contribution of the National Police “to our tourist attraction”: “We are still the autonomous community with the second lowest crime rate in the country and far from the national average. Those who come to Asturias know that this is a safe place and that is, in large part, thanks to your work.”
The delegate of the Government congratulated the National Police for its two hundred years of history, time in which “it has been at the service of Spain, at the service of its citizens, and of the protection of freedom and justice.” In reference to the book that reviews the trajectory of the National Police in Asturias and that was presented last week, Lastra has been optimistic about the future of the Corps: “I don’t know if we’ll be part of a history book in two centuries, and we don’t even know if the books will still exist, but what I’m sure of is that the National Police will continue to exist.”
The delegate of the Government recalled that in June the Council of Ministers again expanded the staffing of the State Security Forces and Corps with the call for 5,505 places in a public job offer that applies a replacement rate of 125 percent. “Since the government of Pedro Sánchez, a total of 34,220 new places have been offered for the State Security Forces and Corps,” said Lastra, “in an undeniable commitment to security and reversing the job freeze experienced by the previous government.”
In her speech, the government delegate has had words of thanks for her predecessor in office, Delia Losa, for her “advice and collaboration”, and also for the head of the National Police in Asturias, the main commissioner Luis Carlos Espino, for having been “a fundamental support and a loyal collaborator who is always willing”.
