December 26, 2024.- Today, Friday, December 27, the second phase of the operation Christmas 2024 will begin at 3 p.m., with a device that will last until 23:59 hours on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 and whose objective is to ensure the safety of road users.
For these days, it is expected that 6,420,000 million long-distance trips will be made by road, 116,000 of them in Asturias, movements to which we will have to add those that have already been made at the beginning of Christmas with main destinations second residences, mountain areas for the practice of winter sports, areas of winter and Christmas tourist attraction as chosen destinations to rest, as well as commercial areas.
The most unfavorable hours for travel will be concentrated between 18:00 and 21:00 on Friday 27, between 10:00 and 13:00 hours on Saturday 28 and between 19:00 and 21 hours on Sunday, December 29.
In order for these journeys to be carried out in the most orderly, fluid and safe way possible, work on the roads will be paralysed, the holding of sporting events and other events involving the occupation of the road will be limited and the movement of lorries in general and those transporting certain goods on certain stretches of roads, dates and times will be restricted.
In order to carry out all these measures, the DGT has officials, specialized technical staff that attend the Traffic Management Centers; agents of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard and employees of the conservation companies, of concessional roads dependent on the Ministry of Transport and the rest of the road owners, as well as personnel of the emergency services, both sanitary and fire fighters.
The complete device can be consulted in the “Special Operations” section in www.dgt.es/conoce-el-estado-del-trafico/recomendaciones-de-trafico/
TIPS BEFORE HITTING THE ROAD
As always, Traffic appeals to the responsibility of citizens to avoid actions that, on numerous occasions, can cause a sinister of lethal consequences and, as the slogan of this year’s Christmas campaign of the Agency says “Always drive as if you were carrying the main dish of the Christmas dinner”.
Since the beginning of the Christmas period, on December 20, 28 people have died in traffic accidents.
To avoid more pain, and despite being messages already known by drivers, it is necessary to insist again on some basic recommendations:
- Do not get behind the wheel if alcoholic drinks have been ingested in the celebrations and, of course, do not let anyone who has done so drive.
- Maximum caution on short and night trips, even if they are known.
- Pay attention to the circulation in winter, being informed of the meteorological conditions and carry the essential elements to circulate if these are adverse.
- Plan the trip in advance and inform yourself about any road incidents through the traffic information bulletins on the different radio and television stations, on the web www.dgt.es, on Twitter -@DGTes and @InformacionDGT- and on the phone 011.
