The Council of Ministers approved, at its meeting today and on the proposal of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma), a Royal Decree amending the concession of the AP-66 motorway, Campomanes-León, for the implementation of measures to adapt and improve energy efficiency in tunnels and to combat noise pollution.
This is a concessional modification that does not entail any change in the amount of tolls or the duration of the concession, and is aimed at improving the sustainability and safety of the AP-66 motorway, through the following actions:
- Adapt the existing tunnels to the provisions of the Royal Decree on minimum safety requirements for tunnels of the trans-European road network.
- Improvement of energy efficiency in tunnels.
- Combating noise pollution in the municipality of Lena, as foreseen in the Phase II Noise Action Plan of Mitma.
To achieve these objectives, a distribution of obligations has been established between Mitma, which will assume the execution of the works through the General Directorate of Roads, and the concessionaire company, which will be responsible for the drafting of the projects and the conservation, maintenance and exploitation of all the new elements that are incorporated into the concession.
In addition, each party shall bear the costs necessary to fulfil its obligations. To this end, as far as Mitma is concerned, it is planned that the actions will be funded preferably through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
