The first phase of the 2023 Programme to Help the Most Disadvantaged People is already under way. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has sent 251,397.60 kilos of food to Asturias to the vessels of the Food Bank of Asturias Foundation and the Asturias Red Cross so that both entities can distribute them among 18,687 beneficiaries. 99 organizations collaborate in the distribution of products valued at 417,029.67 euros.
The Program is 100% funded by the Aid for Recovery for Cohesion and the Territories of Europe (OBJECTIVE-EU) fund to increase support to the European Aid Fund for the Most Disadvantaged People (FEAD), in order to address the situation of those who have been affected socially and economically by the COVID-19 crisis.
The Agriculture and Fisheries Area of the Government Delegation in Asturias is responsible for coordinating the delivery and distribution of food.
The foods that are distributed this month are basic, varied, nutritious, unperishable, easy to transport and storage. The food basket includes: olive oil, UHT whole milk rice, cooked beans, canned tuna, alimentary paste, fried tomato, biscuits, vegetable macedonia, soluble cocoa and childish fruit and chicken tarritos.
Nationwide, the 2023 Program of Food Aid to the Most Disadvantaged People involves the free distribution of 15 million kilos of food throughout the country. The action has required the purchase of food, through a public tender process, for 88.6 million euros.
