Zaragoza.- Schoolchildren of 5th and 6th Primary of the CEIP María Quintana de Mequinenza have participated in the inauguration of the Master Plan for the coexistence and improvement of safety in educational centers and their environments of the 2024-2025 academic year. The students of the Mequinenzano school have attended the talk Do you know what is there?, Ay, ay, ay…, given by a Civil Guard agent, who talked about the risks of using the internet.
The information activity, which has been attended by the Subdelegate of the Government in Zaragoza, Noelia Herrero, and the Chief Colonel of the Zaragoza Command, Luis Germán Avilés, among other authorities, is part of this plan, which aims to prevent any risk that may affect the safety and well-being of minors and adolescents in the school and its environment, coming from the digital world.
The enormous educational possibilities offered by the computerization of schools and, more recently, the emergence of artificial intelligence, also entail a series of risks that must be detected and prevented. And since schoolchildren spend most of their time in colleges and institutes, the education system has a fundamental role in enabling them to act correctly in the digital age.
That is why it is important to raise awareness and train people both in fundamental rights and freedoms and in values such as equality between men and women or in the need to eradicate violent behaviour in schools.
In order to publicize the different forms of violence existing in the networks, the risk factors to which students can be exposed and the means available to police forces are essential to the Security Forces and Corps (the Civil Guard in rural areas and the National Police in urban areas), turning its members into a permanent link and a channel of communication with the educational community.
The Master Plan includes a series of training and information activities, with talks given by agents of the Civil Guard and the National Police, in close collaboration with the Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation in Aragon. They are also complemented by exhibitions of the material media that both police forces have, such as those exhibited yesterday in Mequinenza, with the participation of members of Traffic, Cinological Service, Seprona or Citizen Security units.
The Master Plan was inaugurated in Aragon in 2007 and since then there are many educational centers that have adhered to it, with a high degree of satisfaction for the results obtained. Only in the academic year 2022-2023, in the province of Zaragoza were taught: 1,213 talks addressed to students, 84 addressed to AMPAS and 14 addressed to the educational community. In total, about 65,000 students and students participated.
