The Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food have joined efforts to extend the scope of the Spanish Film Day to rural Spain, joining this celebration to the International Day of Rural Women. The new program Extended Spanish Film Day, which merges with the National Cycle of Cinema and Rural Women, will carry out ten screenings in the province of Huesca, with a prominent presence in the Comarca of the Monegros, where the Coordinator of Women's Associations and the CEDER Monegros join the initiative.
This has been detailed in a press conference by the Subdelegate of the Government in Huesca, Carlos Campo, who has been accompanied by the regional councilor for Equality, Youth and Social Rights of the Comarca of the Monegros, Óscar Gavin, and by the president of the Coordinator of Women's Associations of Los Monegros, Ana Belén González.
For Campo, “culture is a right that must reach the whole territory, regardless of how many people live in it; in the same way, cinema is a powerful tool to show the realities and concerns of rural women, so this cycle merges two priority objectives for the Government of Spain.”
In Huesca, ten screenings will be made in so many other locations, with passes from four recent Spanish film titles, mostly directed by women filmmakers: ‘Camino de la suerte’ (Jorge Alonso, 2023), ‘El agua’ (Elena López Riera, 2022), ‘Secaderos’ (Rocío Mesa, 2022), ‘O corno’ (Jaione Camborda, 2023).
Film and Women in Los Monegros
This cycle will have a special presence in the Comarca of the Monegros, where it will start in Castejón de Monegros on October 15, International Day of Rural Women, with the screening of the film ‘El Agua’ and a colloquium of women monegrinas who have obtained the Gabardera Prize, annual recognition of the Coordinator of Women’s Associations of Los Monegros.
On October 19, the film ‘Dryers’ will be screened in Sena and a colloquium will be held between the five organizing entities, under the organization of the Foundation for the Promotion of Youth and Sport of Los Monegros.
On October 26, in Sariñena, the Feminist Observatory “Elisa García” of Los Monegros organizes a round table of sanitary women in rural areas, with the preview of the film ‘O corno’.
On November 9, in Valfonda de Santa Ana, with the help of the local Association of Women and Consumers, the film ‘Road to Luck’ will be screened.
Finally, on November 16, there will be an ‘O corno’ pass in Bujaraloz, organized by CEDER Monegros. The day includes a round table to delve into the role of rural women in contemporary cinema.
All activities will begin at 5.30 p.m. and will also have the photographic exhibition ‘Rural Woman’, which brings together a selection of the works awarded in this exhibition organized each year by the Foundation for the Promotion of Youth and Sport of Los Monegros.
Programming in other parts of the province
The programming is completed in the province with sessions in Triunllón (‘Camino de la Fortuna’, October 18), Ansó (‘Camino de la Fortuna’, October 19), Bielsa (‘Secadero’, November 16), Castejón del Puente (‘Camino de la Fortuna’, November 9), Estadilla (‘Camino de la Fortuna’, October 26) and Jasa (‘O corno’, October 26).
In total, 52 screenings will be carried out in Aragon in so many other localities that the vast majority do not have screening rooms. Throughout Spain there will be more than 300 localities, divided by the 17 autonomous communities.
In this way, the National Rural Women’s Film Cycle, which has been organized for seven years by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, acquires a new impetus thanks to the collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, allowing the film experience to be extended to rural localities.
