The government delegate in Aragon, Fernando Beltrán, participated on Tuesday in an information day on video surveillance systems for mayors and mayors of the province of Huesca, organized jointly with the Provincial Council of Huesca. The objective of this meeting, attended by representatives of some 70 localities, has been to publicize the application process for the installation of security cameras in municipal terms, a tool that Beltrán has defined as “very valuable for the work of the State Security Forces and Bodies.”
The government delegate, accompanied by the subdelegate of the Government in Huesca, Carlos Campo, and by the president of the Provincial Council, Isaac Claver, stressed that the video cameras “have on the one hand a deterrent component for potential people who pose a wrongful act, and on the other they are a fundamental element for the investigation, since in Aragon there are numerous crimes that have been clarified thanks to security images.”
In the province, there are already 16 localities that have an authorized video surveillance system (Albierre, Altorricón, Arén, Barbastro, Binéfar, Canfranc, Chimillas, Fraga, Graus, Huesca, Monzón, Poleñino, Sabiñánigo, Sallent de Gállego, Tierz and Torres de Barbués) and five are in process after having requested them (Banastás, Casbas de Huesca, Sariñenta, Senés de Albierre and Torrente). Beltrán said that “we hope that this number will increase soon, because there are several mayors who have shown their interest, given that there is a direct relationship between the installation of cameras and the reduction of crime.”
Applications to implement video surveillance systems are processed through the Government Delegation in Aragon, while authorization is the responsibility of the Video Surveillance Guarantees Commission in Aragon. This Commission is chaired by the President of the High Court of Justice of Aragon, and is made up of the Chief Prosecutor of the High Court of Justice of Aragon, a State Lawyer, the Secretary-General and the Chief of Citizen Rights of the Delegation of the Government in Aragon and a representative of the Aragonese Federation of Municipalities, Comarcas and Provinces (FAMCP).
