The government delegate in Aragon, Fernando Beltrán, has visited the Monrepós Tunnel Control Center, from which the safety of the seven tunnels of Monrepós is monitored, on the A-23 motorway, plus three tunnels on the Pyrenean axis, on the N-260 road. Beltrán, accompanied by the subdelegate in Huesca, Carlos Campo, has known the operation of this facility located in Arguis, together with the head of State Road Demarcation in Aragón, Sandra de Francisco, she has thanked the wintry road team deployed in the province for their work.
Beltrán has highlighted the relevance of the Arguis Control Center for the safety and road of the A-23 section in the Port of Monrepós. In this regard, he explained that, so far this year, an average daily circulation in this section of 9,438 vehicles has been monitored. The delegate pointed out that the ‘door to the Pyrenees’ character of this road means that it has “a very high traffic flow” during holidays and holiday periods, such as the past bridge of the Constitution, during which more than 78,000 vehicles traveled through the Monrepós (from December 4 to 10, both inclusive).
Regarding the progress to complete the route of the A-23, which will increase the fluidity of traffic, the government delegate pointed out that “since 2018, the Government of Spain has demonstrated its firm commitment to the infrastructure of the province.” In this regard, he recalled that last October the Ministry of Transport put out to tender for 115 million euros the works of the last section of the A-23 motorway between Lanave and Sabiñánigo Sur.
Wintry viality
During his visit, Fernando Beltrán has been able to see the deployment of means to face the winter difficulties on the State Roads. In the province of Huesca, the device has 39 snow removal machines, 5 flux stores, 21 flux silos, 3 brine plants and 7 brine tanks.
The delegate recalled that this Friday the special traffic operation begins on the occasion of the Christmas holidays, which, together with the winter season, makes it “fundamental” to maintain prudence on the road, follow the recommendations of the DGT and have forecast for possible adverse weather situations.
In this regard, he recalled that, in case of restrictions on snow circulation (red level) on the A-23 in the Port of Monrepós, the passage of vehicles with chains is prohibited and only those carrying winter wheels can circulate. This measure seeks to preserve both road safety and the fluidity of traffic in a section in which several tunnels occur.
