Aragonese exports represent, according to data for the month of May, 1,476.3 million euros, which implies a growth of 0.9% compared to the same period of the previous year, and an increase of 24% compared to the month of April. The report, prepared by the Territorial Directorate of Trade-ICEX in Aragon of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, with data provided by the Customs Department of the AEAT, also shows that total imports amount to 1,634.7 million euros, amounting to 26.4% compared to the previous year and 11.7% intermonthly.
However, the commercial balance in this period has a deficit of 158.4 million euros. The coverage rate stands at 90.3%. Aragonese exports accounted for 4.3% of total Spanish exports in the month of May 2023.
The main sectors that contributed to the growth of exports in Aragon came from the food, beverages and tobacco sector, automobile and capital goods. The sectors that contributed negatively were the consumer manufacturing sector, chemical products, non-chemical semi-manufactures and energy products. In terms of imports, the sectors that contributed positively were mainly the automobile sector, equipment, food, beverages and tobacco and raw materials. The largest negative contributions were from the chemical, durable consumer goods and non-chemical semi-consumer sectors.
The European Union remains the main destination for Aragonese exports, accounting for 69.3% of the total, increasing 13.5% compared to the previous year. Of the main partners, the increases in sales to Italy (47.7%) and France (12.3%) stand out. Exports to third countries account for 30.7% of the total, decreasing to all regions. The increases, among other countries, to Taiwan (83%), China (66%) or Singapore (30.1%) can be highlighted positively.

Aragonese exports reach 6,989.7 million euros (3.9% increase compared to the same period of the previous year). Imports reach 7,826 million euros with an increase of 35.8%. As a result, the commercial balance in this period has a deficit of 836.3 million euros. The coverage rate stands at 89.3%. The export activity of Aragon represents 4.2% of the total domestic sales abroad.
The main export sectors in the period January-May 2023 with the greatest positive contribution have been the automotive, food, beverages and tobacco sector, capital goods and durable consumer goods. The negative contributions came from the non-chemical semimanuinvoices sector, consumer manufactures and chemicals. The main importing sectors by positive contribution were automotive, capital goods, food, beverages and tobacco and durable consumer goods. The main negative contributions came from the consumer manufacturing, chemicals and raw materials sector.
The European Union remains the main destination for Aragonese exports, accounting for 69.3% of the total in the January-May period, increasing 12.9% compared to the previous year. Of the main partners, the cumulative increases to Italy (26.7%), France (8%), Germany (1.6%) and Portugal (3.4%) stand out. Exports to third countries accounted for 30.7%, although they fell by 12% year-on-year, highlighting the decline in sales to all regions. By country, the increases to Morocco (28.9%), China (26.2%) or Singapore (9.5%) among others can be highlighted in this period.
