The Government of Spain will finance the cleaning and recovery of the environment of the Turia River, which experienced significant damage to its riverbed as a result of the DANA of October 29.
The Secretary of State for Territorial Policy, Arcadi Spain, and the Commissioner for Reconstruction, José María Ángel, coordinated this morning in Riba-roja del Túria a meeting with the mayors, mayors and technicians of the municipalities adjacent to the Turia River with the aim of dealing in a coordinated way with the repair and restoration of its environment. Representatives of the Generalitat Valenciana and the Hydrographic Confederation of Júcar also participated in the meeting.
Thus, during this first working meeting, the needs of the affected municipalities have been put in common, attending to the possible actions in the Turia River riverbed and in its environment that, during the DANA, experienced strong increases in flow that caused significant damage to the margins of the river, with destruction of infractions, material raids, accumulation of sludge or waste, affectation of infrastructures (such as ditches, walkways, roads or passages), etc.
After the meeting, Arcadi España described it as “very productive” and called on its attendees to meet again “to follow up on the commitments made”. “We have a great shared objective, which is to accelerate the process of cleaning the river and then promote a coordinated reconstruction, always listening to the municipalities,” he stressed.
“The Government of Spain has made available to mayors 100% of the financing of reconstruction, which is not only about repairing infrastructure; it is also emotional,” said Spain, which has also said that “the Government has already entered the municipalities bordering the Turia River that today have participated in the meeting more than 93 million euros for municipal infrastructure, to which is added the investment already being made by the Hydrographic Confederation of Júcar.” “The sooner the neighbors enjoy their natural park, the sooner we can talk about recovery,” he concluded.
