The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, who participated in the meeting of the Subcommittee on Coasts, within the Bilateral Canary Islands-State Commission, together with the President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, has invited both administrations to a new meeting before the summer to try to resolve the discrepancies: “You have to exhaust all the time to try to reach an agreement.”
“Faced with such different legal exposures, it is difficult to reach an agreement. The Canary Islands Statute is not under discussion, what we put on the table is the interpretation of the Spanish Constitution. This is how the government interprets it, while the Canary Islands state that it is a regional competition,” he said.
