The event served as a strategic framework for discussing the urgency of climate change, protecting biodiversity and boosting local economies that demonstrate that human development and nature conservation can coexist in harmony. In addition, the La Palma World Biosphere Reserve presented its management model after the 2021 volcanic eruption, exposing the execution of a grant of 15 million euros from MITECO for reconstruction, which allowed to process 119 dossiers and award 114 actions in the fourteen municipalities of the island, with a high impact on local employment.
The choice of La Palma as the venue for this twenty-seventh edition is not accidental, since La Palma has a pioneering historical trajectory in this UNESCO program. In 1983, the farm "El Canal y Los Tilos" was the first area of Spain declared Biosphere Reserve, a recognition that was progressively extended to the entire island area in 2002. The session of this committee has valued the resilience of the palm territory and its capacity for environmental and social recovery, serving as a practical example for other delegations.
