STARMUS festival preparation meeting to be held in La Palma, in 2025. The festival will serve as a platform for the international promotion of the “beautiful island” and its location as one of the most privileged places in the world for the observation of the sky. This event aims to consolidate Isla Bonita as “the island of the stars” and thus be an international reference, for the scientific community and for astrotourism, forming part of the recovery program of the island of La Palma, after the eruption of the Tajogaite Volcano (Cumbre Vieja), in 2021. Starmus returns to the Canary Islands with the Starlight Foundation, founded by the doctor in astrophysics of the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canary Islands Garik Israelian and the guitarist of Queen Brian May.
There has been a press conference, it should be noted, the collaboration between institutions.
The president of the Cabildo de La Palma, said, "the festival returns to the island to stay, with activities that will be developed every year, allowing to maintain the essence of the island and this event", the Minister of Innovation said that the Government of the Canary Islands, "contributes with three million euros to strengthen a priority sector such as astronomy and revitalize the economy of the Isla Bonita", the Special Commissioner for the Reconstruction of the Island of La Palma, stressed that "rich countries do not invest in science because they are rich; they are rich because they have previously invested in and, in that sense, Palma has its own scientific potential.
An event chaired by the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, was attended by the founder of STARMUS, Garik Israelian, guitarist of Queen, Brian May, also doctor in astrophysics, Sergio Rodríguez, President of the Island Council of La Palma, Héctor Izquierdo, Special Commissioner for the Reconstruction of the island, Rafael Rebolo, director of the IAC, Migdalia Machín, advisor of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture, Javier Santaolalla, scientist and popularist.
Starmus La Palma will be held with European funds for the Reconstruction of the island of La Palma from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism, promoted by the Special Commissioner for the Reconstruction of the Island of La Palma.
