On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Spanish exile and the 70th anniversary of the Spanish Athenaeum in Mexico, a commemorative program is held on June 13 and 14, based on gratitude to Mexico and President Lázaro Cárdenas for having given refuge to thousands of Spaniards. Along with the testimonies of exiles, and the awarding of recognitions to them, the planned activities represent Mexico’s gratitude for their important contributions to the culture, knowledge and daily life of the country. Screening of the videos "Heroes of the air" and "The house of Spain", and video capsules with interviews with exiles filmed by UN-UNHCR Mexico, inauguration of the exhibition "The Boats of Freedom", round table "The 80 years of Spanish republican exile" with the participation of Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Solórzano, Sara Ladrón de Gevara, Jorge de Hoyos, José María Espinasa, and Ernesto Casanova, among other acts. Premiere, in addition, of the documentary "Bottled from origin". The Secretary of State of Spain Global, Irene Lozano, the President of the Interministerial Commission for the Commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the exile and Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, Cristina Latorre, and the Ambassador of Spain in Mexico, Juan López-Dóriga, attend. The commemoration is celebrated on the 80th anniversary of the disembarkation in Veracruz of the ship "Sinaia" with more than 1,500 Spanish refugees. Within the commemorative acts, and from Mexico City, launch of the Collaborative Map of Spanish exile in Mexico, in collaboration with the Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico.
