The Congress is held within the framework of the commemorative events of the 80th anniversary of the Spanish Republican exile and the bicentenary of the Museo Nacional del Prado. It is intended to recall the episode in the history of the art gallery, marked by the Civil War, in which the Republican government was forced to evacuate abroad some of the most important works of the museum and the Spanish artistic heritage to safeguard them from possible destruction. Dolores Delgado stressed that, as important as the protection of these works in 1936 was their return to Spain, which made it possible that "today we can enjoy one of the most important collections in the world in one of the most visited museums in Europe"
