The Cervantes Institute and the Interministerial Commission for the Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Spanish Republican Exile present the gala of music and poetry "We never left: 80 years of Spanish republican exile" in which the singer-songwriters Paco Ibáñez participate
and Andrés Suárez, cantaora Soleá Morente, composer and musician Marwan and singers Juan Valderrama and Ismael Serrano, among others.
The gala is opened by Carmen Calvo, Vice President, Acting Minister of the Presidency, and closed by Dolores Delgado, Acting Minister of Justice, with the reading of a fragment of "Fields of Almond Trees", by Max Aub. In this meeting of music and poetry in which texts related to exile will be read participate Luis García Montero, director of the Cervantes Institute; Fernando Martínez López, former general director of Historical Memory (Ministry of Justice); Ernesto Pérez Zúñiga, head of Cultural Activities of the Cervantes Institute; Alberto San Juan, actor, and the writers Almudena Grandes, Ángeles Mora, and Aroa Moreno Durán.
The poetic and musical event, which marks the beginning of the closing of the 80th anniversary commemoration, is organized by the Cervantes Institute and the Interministerial Commission for the Commemoration of the Spanish Republican Exile, in collaboration with the SGAE.
Consecrated musicians and authors will join hands with new creators to combine songs with stories, music with poetry, melodies with words reminiscent of the great republican exile that occurred in 1939 on the occasion of the Civil War.
