The National Police has arrested in Bilbao a woman who had a court order in force for search, arrest and personation for allegedly stealing high-end jewellery and watches.
The operation carried out by the Judicial Police Brigade began more than 6 months ago, when in the Biscayan capital members of a criminal organization that acted throughout the national territory committing robberies and robberies with violence to steal luxury watches and jewelry through the so-called “love theft” or “solidarity hug”, a technique used to approach the most vulnerable victims in order to gain their trust.
In this sense, the group acted by selecting its victims, usually elderly foreign men who wore luxury wristwatches, mainly Rolex, or jewels, and then approached them with the excuse of asking for a donation for a cause of solidarity or offering them sexual services in order to remove their watch with skill or, without need, violence.
Due to these facts, on April 28, the National Police already detained in Bilbao two women of Romanian nationality who accumulated multiple judicial claims throughout the country.
It should be noted that the woman arrested on 20 September took advantage of her advanced gestation to overcome the initial mistrust of her victims and to approach them more easily, thus removing from them the valuable objects they carried in order, once the theft or robbery had been committed, to flee in a vehicle driven by a man, already detained at another stage of the operation, who was waiting for her in the vicinity.
With this arrest, ten people have already been arrested for these acts, nine women and one man, thus leading to the practical dismantling of this criminal group.
The National Police continues to focus on the BASIC RECOMMENDATIONS to prevent this type of crime, especially directed at elderly people, the main one being the distrust of those people who are persistently affectionate under any pretext with the intention of getting too close, recalling the need to file a complaint as soon as possible that provides a detailed description of the stolen object and the perpetrators.
