The National Police has arrested nine people accused of alleged crimes of trafficking in human beings for the purposes of sexual exploitation, coercive prostitution, promotion of illegal immigration, drug trafficking and membership of a criminal organization.
The investigation began when a woman went to the Bilbao Immigration and Border Brigade to report that she was being sexually exploited.
In the story before the agents, she explained that she had come to Spain attracted by a succulent offer of employment as a cleaner and that, once in the Basque Country, the person with whom she contacted sent her to an address in a market in Bilbao where on arrival they indicated that she had actually come to practice prostitution and that she would not work as a cleaner.
The conditions that imposed it consisted of working all day, having only two hours off, so she would perceive 50 percent of what she earned with each sexual service, practicing oral sex without a condom and taking drugs to the different places where the clients were, consuming cocaine with them if they demanded it, something that, according to her, cost her a lot because she had never tried any type of drug.
In this regard, he explained that on more than one occasion he had to travel to the Hospital of Basurto, where a client was admitted, to take cocaine and perform sexual services.
Given the seriousness of the events reported and the likelihood of them, the agents immediately conferred on him the status of protected witness, informing him, in addition, of the rights that assist him as a victim trafficking in human beings, among which are the option of obtaining a residence and work permit, or assisted return to his country of origin, if he collaborates with the investigators, or the possibility of being derived to some assistance resource and accommodation of the administration.
Likewise, two companions of the previous victim, who were also granted the status of protected witness, appeared at the Superior Police Headquarters of Bilbao to corroborate what she narrated and contribute that they used them as "mules" to take cocaine to customers, instructing them to encourage their customers to try it if they were not consumers.
After the appropriate investigations, the investigators confirmed the versions given by the protected witnesses and found that the band was composed of nine members, mainly Hispanic Americans, who were engaged in the sexual exploitation of women captured in Latin America in a local in Calle Pintores Zubiaurre, in the neighborhood of Ametzola.
In addition, they discovered that at least nine women were being exploited, all of them in an irregular situation in our country.
For all these reasons, after gathering sufficient evidence and with the necessary judicial authorization, on April 26 an entry and registration was made in the premises under investigation, finding at that time four women practicing prostitution coactively and intervening 3,300 euros in cash, a laptop computer, four mobile phones, several doses of Viagra, 300 grams of cocaine, a balance of precision and numerous documentation related to these crimes.
To conclude the operation, the 9 suspects were arrested in Bilbao, Barakaldo and Castro Urdiales (Cantabria) and placed at the disposal of the Bilbao Examining Court 2, which investigates the case.
