Officials of the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency and agents of the Civil Guard, in a joint operation, have arrested a person for introducing 1.5 kilos of ketamine impregnated in textile material and have dismantled the ‘home laboratory’ of the Principality of Asturias, where the narcotic substance was extracted.
The operation began on February 8, when officials of the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency in the Basque Country and agents of the Civil Guard, integrated in the Risk Analysis Unit of the Regional Customs Unit e II.EE. del País Vasco, detectaron un envío postal susceptible de ocultar una sustancia que pudiera ser estupefaciente.
After carrying out the corresponding checks, it was determined that the package contained 1.5 kilos of ketamine, and that the drug was impregnated in a textile material. The package was destined for a point in the national geography and the sender intended to send it by postal mail.
Later efforts made it possible to find out that the shipment had been made from Bangladesh and that it was destined for the municipality of El Berron-Siero (Principality of Asturias). After the coordination of the investigation by the Civil Guard and the Customs Surveillance Service of that demarcation, it was possible to identify the person who should receive the shipment, a neighbor of the aforementioned province.
Finally, and with the necessary judicial authorization, on February 14, a series of actions were taken that allowed him to be arrested and brought before the courts for an alleged crime of drug trafficking.
‘Home lab’
After entering and registering the detainee ' s home, it was found that he was being used as a laboratory to extract the drug from the textile material in which it was impregnated. In the house they were found both useful for the realization of the process, as 75 towels already treated, a precision scale and 1,520 euros in cash; which denotes the exercise of an illegal activity of relevance and continued over time.
With this action, one of the entry routes of this type of drug is considered disarticulated both in the Autonomous Community of the Principality of Asturias and in Galicia, places of distribution of the drug.
