The Council of Ministers, at its meeting today and on the proposal of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma), has approved a Royal Decree that regulates the direct granting of a grant of 40 million euros distributed in the years of 2023, 2024 and 2025 to the Foral Community of Navarre to finance the modernization and improvement of the tunnels of Belate and Almandoz, located on the N-121-A road.
The works include the doubling of the current tunnel along an approximate length of 2.9 km and 1.4 km respectively, the construction of emergency intermediate galleries to connect with existing tunnels and the improvement of the facilities of both tunnels, including signaling, safety and ventilation systems.
This grant will allow the Government of Navarre, as a beneficiary, to carry out the necessary works to ensure that both tunnels that are owned by it and are part of the trans-European network, comply with Directive 2004/54/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004.
This grant approved today of 40 million is in addition to the other 40 million euros already transferred since June 2018 for other actions to improve the N-121-A road, which allows the union with France, through its conversion into a 2+1 road.
In addition, the General Budgets approved for this year 2023 foresee another 15 million euros for this road, which in total would be 95 million euros destined by the Government of Spain to this road.
