The General Directorate of Books and Reading Promotion of the Ministry of Culture and Sport has announced at the last Library Cooperation Council, meeting in Palma de Mallorca, the celebration in Navarre of the XI National Congress of Public Libraries. The event, entitled ‘Democracy, reading and the right to information’, will be held at the Baluarte Palace in Pamplona from 18 to 20 October.
This meeting, the last edition of which took place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is held every two years in order to get to know the national panorama regarding public libraries. It brings together a large number of professionals from all the autonomous communities and shows an updated X-ray of the library situation that allows us to establish the lines of work for the future.
In addition, the day before the celebration of this Congress, on October 17, will take place the meeting on ‘Europeana’, a digital library of European cultural historical material that is offered to cultural heritage enthusiasts, professionals, teachers and researchers.
Europeana’s goal is to inspire and inform, share and enjoy the European cultural heritage, and use it to create new content. It allows access to millions of cultural heritage objects from institutions all over Europe such as works of art, books, music and videos on culture, newspapers, archaeology, fashion, science and sports, among others.
