25 November 2025. The government delegate has today called for full citizen involvement in the fight against gender violence as a necessary complement to all the measures, legal, police and material resources that the Government of Spain makes available to victims and other administrations.
Francisco Lucas, who has presided over the ceremony of handing over the Menina 2025 awards, has indicated that gender violence is incumbent on us and holds us all responsible.
“There is no excuse anymore. Gender-based violence is not a personal issue that should be resolved in the private sphere or in the privacy of each household. We need a conscientious society that does not keep up with offenses and aggressions, that does not have fear and that speaks, denounces, condemns and judicially, criminally and socially isolates the abusers,” he said in his speech.
In this regard, the government delegate has asked all the educational centers to follow the example of the IES San Isidoro de Los Dolores, in Cartagena, and request to constitute Punto Violeta, an initiative that allows the affiliated centers to become safe and trusted points where to offer support, information and advice to the victims of Gender Violence.
“It is throughout all stages of education that the foundations must be laid for a proper education and awareness policy. Because only with appropriate preventive policies can we aspire to eradicate dramas of this magnitude,” he said.
I remember the victims of Gender Violence in the Region of Murcia
Lucas has had a special memory for the two women who died this year at the hands of their partners in the Region of Murcia, and for the little Nadia, five years old, victim of vicarious violence last April in Llano de Brujas.
“It is pure fanaticism that does not distinguish between age and social status and that has cost the life of Ainhoa, 19 years old and with a whole life ahead, and Ginesa, neighbor of El Algar, 64 years old, last September. The heart shrinks even more from thinking about the nonsense of Nadia’s death. The five-year-old girl from Llano de Brujas, who in April was robbed of her life by the most repugnant and cowardly personification of machismo,” she said.
The MENINA Awards, instituted by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, are granted on the proposal of the Government Delegation in the Region of Murcia to distinguish the involvement of people and institutions in the fight against violence against women in our Region.
Together with the MENINA Awards, granted this year to the Murcia II Penitentiary Center in Campos del Río, the Special Delegation of the Tax Agency in the Region of Murcia and the Columbares Association, the Government Delegation has distinguished members of State Security Forces and Bodies who regularly collaborate with the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women and members of the Educational Community who have been actively involved in disseminating information to detect and act against violent behavior.
Meninas 2025 and distinctions
The government delegate stressed that all those recognized today reflect the cross-cutting nature of the action against ‘Violence against Women’ and the integral nature of the protection of victims.
The Murcia II Penitentiary Centre has been recognized for implementing the ‘Protocol of Communication of Urgent Prison Movements’ for the direct transmission of prison information to the Police Units that monitor cases and for the full incorporation into the System of Integral Monitoring of Cases (‘VioGén System’).
In addition, the promotion of information and awareness-raising activities to prevent further attacks at a critical time in judicial proceedings has been taken into account.
Lucas has valued that the Special Delegation of the Tax Agency in the Region of Murcia is a national pioneer in the fight against ‘Economic Violence’. This is one of the aspects of ‘Gender Violence’ that is later detected by the victims, institutions and professionals in charge of their protection.
“For this reason, we recognize its commitment to being a ‘Violet Point’, as well as the elaboration and dissemination of informative material that allows to prevent the impersonation of identity and loss of property of the victims,” said the Delegate.
La Association Columbares She has been working since the 1980s to build a more just and supportive society, focused on allowing all people to develop in freedom.
In this objective, the protection of women stands out, taking into account the gender inequalities that they experience in all areas of life: Employment, Health, Education, social presence, etc.
“Her intervention has the integral character that requires action in ‘Violence Against Women’, incorporating the facets of protection, prevention and social awareness through her programs and actions,” Lucas said.
In addition, he has been distinguished for his educational commitment, the team responsible for the ‘Violeta Point’ constituted in the San Isidoro Institute, of Los Dolores, Cartagena.
“This is the first Educational Center in the Region of Murcia that has wanted to be a reference in informing citizens, making visible the social commitment against those who deny or minimize ‘Violence on Women’, said the government delegate.
The agents have also been recognized María Conesa Espinosa and Francisco Javier Díez Sánchez, members of the Women and Minors’ Team of the Civil Guard. And the inspectors Ángel Hernández Hernández and Antonio Tornel Alfocea, who have been outstanding members of the Family and Women Unit of the National Police.
“These recognitions serve to reiterate my deep pride and enormous gratitude for the dedication and selfless sacrifice of all members of the State Security Forces and Corps in the protection of women victims of gender violence. His work, never sufficiently recognized, transcends the limits of the professional and requires a high degree of personal and emotional involvement,” added Lucas.
Resources of the Government of Spain against Gender Violence
Finally, the Government delegate highlighted the resources allocated by the Government of Spain to combat this scourge, and recalled that the Government Delegation has managed to involve and incorporate 27 municipalities of the Region and their local police into the VIOGEN System of the Ministry of the Interior for the protection of victims of gender violence.
“In this way, after the last incorporation of Mula, this system already covers 83.83% of the autonomous area. And 83.62% of the regional population is protected by the umbrella of this network,” he said.
Lucas recalled that in the last seven years the Government of Spain has allocated more than 32 million euros to the Autonomous Community of funds of the State Pact against Gender Violence and another six million to all municipalities in the Region of Murcia.
