- The government delegate has transferred to various groups and associations his personal and institutional commitment to guarantee the recovery and defense of the lagoon
- “We cannot allow López Mire to modify the Mar Menor Law to satisfy the extreme right for a purely personal interest,” he said.
- “The Government of Spain has shown with facts that it is the only administration that has worked to recover the Mar Menor, with an investment that exceeds 700 million euros in recent years”
15 January 2026. The government delegate today rejected the proposed amendment of the Mar Menor law proposed by the Regional Government and accused President López Mire of using the loophole as a currency of electoral change to satisfy the interests of the far-right and keep him in power.
“It is an irresponsible decision that consumes the sale of the Mar Menor to the far-right. We cannot forget that it is a law born of consensus, voted and approved by the People’s Party itself. This parliamentary initiative once again demonstrates the radical drift of the regional president, since he modifies the law without listening to all the groups working in his defense or to the rest of civil society, which did participate in a law such as the current one born of consensus,” said Francisco Lucas.
The government delegate, who received several associations and groups this morning for the defense of the Mar Menor, thanked them for their work in protecting the lagoon, and transferred their personal and institutional support so that there is not a single step backwards in all the progress made.
“The Government of Spain has shown with facts that it is the only administration that has worked to recover the Mar Menor, with an investment that exceeds 700 million euros, of which 225 are already committed. We have a president who does not paint anything and who clearly damages the interests of the Region of Murcia”, he said while appealing to the responsibility of the president.
“You cannot throw away the great advances we have made in defense of the Mar Menor for a purely personal interest. Therefore, I want to transfer to all the citizens of the Region of Murcia that we are going to use all the resources at our disposal to protect and defend the Mar Menor”, he concluded.
The government delegate has received the representatives of Pact for the Mar Menor, Ecologistas en Acción, AMAME, FAVCAC, Yayo flautas and Por un Mar Vivo.
The representatives of these entities have thanked him for his commitment and have announced a calendar of mobilizations depending on how the events develop with regard to the intentions of the Regional Government with the Mar Menor.
