- “Once again, the Government of Spain comes to the rescue of the Region of Murcia in the face of inaction and the exhausted and failed model of the regional government”
- “The Government of Spain stopped this nonsense of regional government and now we can recover a natural space of almost one million square meters that all citizens can enjoy again,” he said.
October 21, 2025. The government delegate today announced the approval in the Council of Ministers of the bidding process for the withdrawal of Puerto Mayor and the recovery of the Caleta del Estacio in La Manga del Mar Menor, in which the Government of Spain will invest 26 million euros.
“Once again, the Government of Spain comes to the rescue of the Region of Murcia in the face of inaction and the exhausted and failed model of the regional government,” said Francisco Lucas, who recalled that, in 2021, the central executive had to stop, after a long and complex administrative and judicial history, the execution and environmental impact of this sports port project whose competence fell and was supported by the regional administration.
“The project was intended to occupy an area of special environmental sensitivity at the entrance of the Estacio Canal on the Mediterranean front of La Manga del Mar Menor, but fortunately, and at the proposal of MITECO, the Council of Ministers agreed that year to the reversion to the public sea-land state of the spaces corresponding to Puerto Mayor,” he said.
Recovery of one million square meters
The government delegate has celebrated that this investment will allow the restoration of a natural space of almost one million square meters, which all citizens will be able to enjoy again.
“The Government of Spain is doing everything in its power, even acting beyond its competences, but we need this unquestionable commitment of the Government of Spain to be joined by the Government of López Mire, which is the one with all the competences,” added Lucas, who has insisted that this lack of commitment of the regional government has led to the redetection of areas with anoxia in the Mar Menor.
“López Mire cannot continue to look the other way, and therefore, we ask him to comply with the Law and approve the Territorial Management Plan of the Vertiente del Mar Menor Basin, a basic instrument for its recovery,” he said.
Government Delegate Assistance Commission
Francisco Lucas has made these statements after presiding over the Commission of Assistance to the Government delegate, body for the meeting, coordination and supervision of all the policies of the state in the Region of Murcia that acts as an advisory body, advisor and coordinator of the action of the Government Delegation in the Autonomous Community.
“The work of those responsible for State agencies, sometimes unknown, is being decisive to meet the needs and challenges of our Region. For me, as a government delegate, it is an honor to represent them and make visible a management that is sustaining the welfare state, boosting economic activity and modernizing the Region of Murcia,” he said.
Aid Decree Emergencies municipalities due to lack of water
In his subsequent appearance before the media, the Government delegate has indicated that the Government Delegation has implemented the aid provided for in the Emergency Decree for the municipalities that have been affected by the cut in the water supply as a result of the Dana that affected the Region recently.
“I make myself available again to all mayors. My commitment is to the Region of Murcia and to all the neighbors who have been affected by this situation. I am going to dedicate all my efforts to obtain all kinds of aid, but I also appeal to the regional administration, to see if President López Mire, once, exercises as such and in addition to always blaming everything on the Government of Spain, I ask him to manage and allocate aid to the neighbors and neighbors of the affected municipalities,” he concluded.
