Thirteen people have died in the eleven fatal accidents recorded on the roads of the Region of Murcia between July 1 and August 31, which is eight more than the fatalities recorded in the same period last year. In total, during the past summer there have been 139 casualties with victims that, in addition, caused twenty-two serious injuries.
“It is important to note that eight of the deaths were recorded in July and five in August, that 60% of the fatal accidents took place in July and that 80% of the deaths in August were vulnerable users,” says Virginia Jerez.
The Provincial Chief of Traffic has explained that more than half of the fatal accidents happened on conventional roads and during daytime hours and that more than 70% of the accidents were due to collision. “In 27% of accidents in which there were deaths, the concurrent factor was distraction, and in 18% there was invasion in the opposite direction,” he added.
