- Civil Traffic Guard agents will monitor non-compliance with road signs by drivers, especially speed limits
June 3, 2024. The Provincial Traffic Headquarters develops from today and until June 9 a specific campaign for the control and surveillance of interurban driving on works with the aim of preventing accidents in these sections and ensuring the safety of both road users and workers acting on the road.
“We have to encourage the road system as a whole to protect the driver, and the road safety is one of the fundamental aspects. This campaign aims to protect both the drivers and the track operators themselves, because the effort of their own work is combined with the dangerousness of the proximity of the tracks, and that is why it is important to establish measures for correct signaling, which helps both the user entering that section of works and the operator,” explained Virginia Jerez.
The Provincial Head of Traffic has detailed that in the last five years six traffic accidents related to works, maintenance and conservation on the roads have been registered in the Region of Murcia.
“No one should lose their lives in the performance of their job, and this control and surveillance campaign will contribute to reducing the risks inherent to the human factor, excesses of speed in these sections, inadequate lane changes and distractions,” Jerez insisted.
The preventive measures that are integrated into the recommendations affect the behaviour of road users, and are absolutely necessary for the signs to be respected and for the sections in which maintenance work or rehabilitation works are being carried out to be circulated in a responsible manner.
According to the DGT, the Spanish Road Safety Strategy 2030 identifies safe roads as one of its strategic areas, and in the same way that the Global Plan of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 proposes an integrated safe systems approach that identifies the safe use of roads as a fundamental pillar to contribute to the goal of halving the number of fatalities by the end of the decade.
Results of the Traffic Group of the Civil Guard of the Monitoring and Control of Works Campaign developed between 24 and 30 October 2022.
The Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard of Murcia controlled 1,205 vehicles on interurban roads and filed 22 complaints, which accounted for 1.82% of the total.
