The Government approves 6 tourism sustainability projects in the Region of Murcia with an investment of more than 18.6 million euros of European funds
  • The Sectoral Conference on Tourism, chaired on Tuesday by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Héctor Gómez, has approved a total of 175 projects in all the autonomous communities, corresponding to the program of Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destination 2023.
  • The autonomous communities will receive a total of 478 million euros for the implementation of their tourism sustainability projects, financed entirely with the Next Generation EU funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
  • Of the 6 projects approved in the Region of Murcia, 2 correspond to rural destinations with tourist identity and another 2 to tourist destinations of sun and mixed/residential beach. In addition, also in accordance with this investment, the region will develop two cohesion actions (ACD), which will boost the tourist quality of the destinations.
May 9, 2023. The Government, through the Sectoral Tourism Conference, chaired by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Héctor Gómez, has approved 6 tourism sustainability projects in the Region of Murcia, which will receive 18,670,000 euros for its implementation corresponding to the III Extraordinary Call for the Program of Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destination 2023, financed entirely with the Next Generation EU funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

In total, the autonomous communities will receive an investment of 478 million euros for the financing of 175 tourism sustainability projects, 160 of which will be managed by local entities, while the remaining 15 correspond to cohesion actions (ACD) that will be developed by the autonomous communities and will have a direct impact on destinations.

By type of destination, 255 projects correspond to rural destinations with tourist identity, 69 to tourist destinations of sun and mixed/residential beach, 53 to cities with tourist identity, 18 to urban tourist destinations and the rest to coastal rural destinations (28), natural spaces (36), very internationalized sun and beach destinations (24) and large urban destinations (1).

Of the 6 projects approved in the Region of Murcia, 2 correspond to rural destinations with tourist identity and another 2 to tourist destinations of sun and mixed/residential beach. In addition, also in accordance with this investment, the region will develop two cohesion actions (ACD), which will boost the tourist quality of the destinations.

2 ACD

  • Águilas (Town Hall): The plan aims to transform the area with a commitment to the attractiveness of blue sports tourism, the development of the railway tourism dimension and cultural and creative tourism. The actions include the implementation of the digital ecosystem, territorial cohesion of the coast and interior for the promotion of active tourism or the implementation of circular economy measures.
  • Archena (Town Hall): The objective of the plan is to consolidate a sustainable, inclusive, intelligent and quality tourism model, which leads to an increase in municipal tourism competitiveness and an increase in the quantity and quality of tourism employment. Among the actions is the creation of a product club of health and life tourism, environmental restoration of the Segura River or positioning the Archena Spa as a hub of interior tourism, among others.
  • San Pedro del Pinatar (Town Hall): It seeks to promote the renewal of the tourist model of San Pedro del Pinatar, based on the vectors of digitalization, intelligence and sustainability through measures such as implementation of the Post-Life Salinas project, development and improvement of trail equipment, remodeling of the esplanade of Lo Pagan and environment connection bike lanes Eurovelo 8 or the commitment to digitization, among others.
  • Northwest Tourism Services Community (Community): The main objective of the plan is to transform the Northwest of the Region of Murcia as a sustainable rural destination, valuing its cohesive identity and innovating in the development of new tourism products based on its tradition, gastronomy and nature, to increase economic performance and adapt the territory to the new challenges of the tourism sector.
  • ACD Murcia, Ricote Valley SLOW: the performance aims to turn the heart of the Ricote Valley into a reference for SLOW tourism, understood as slow, relaxed, dreamy, contemplative, self-care, leisurely tourism, where the visitor is able to connect with the landscape, culture and tradition and feel the union between the past and the present of this historic enclave. It is thus transformed into a specialized and competitive rural destination capable of decentralizing tourism demand.
  • ACD Murcia, Turismo Azul: the action is aimed at promoting seasonalization and repopulating coastal areas improving social and environmental sustainability, linking cultural and natural heritage with visitors and activities, as well as increasing training and specialized job training in the field of Blue Tourism and everything it entails. It is focused essentially on blue trails, from the creation of new trails, adaptation of them, creation of cyclable lanes, their hat, signage, to the creation of new tourist products, such as the so-called “Sports Beaches” and diving as an underwater sport.
