- The Government delegate highlights the commitment of the Government of Spain with the Region of Murcia in the presentation of a project that involves nine million euros of investment
- The two works, which also involve a renaturalization of the Ramblas, will be tendered shortly and have a budget of nine million euros
March 6, 2023. The government delegate indicated this morning that the rolling works of the Mendoza and Morcillo canyons will represent a key defense against the floods in Molina de Segura, since the hydrological correction work to be carried out by the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura will allow the creation of natural water retention systems (SNRA) type lagoons.
“These are two projects that will allow the retention of flows during periods of flooding and gradually release them to prevent flooding, and that also contemplate the ecological restoration of the channels in which the works are located,” explained José Vélez during the presentation of the projects, in which he was accompanied by the mayor of the town, Eliseo García, and the president of the CHS, Mario Urrea.
The two works presented for the renaturalization of the Cañada de Mendoza and de Morcillo were made public last February and the tender procedures that will allow their execution will be carried out shortly.
“It is a fundamental project for Molina de Segura and her neighbors, so often promised in other times and only now is it a fact thanks to the commitment of the Government of Spain with Molina de Segura and with the Region of Murcia,” added Vélez.
Rambla del Chorrico
The government delegate has announced that the Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Morán, will soon visit Molina de Segura to announce the start of the works of another historical claim of the town, the hunter-interceptor of stormwater and adaptation of the Chorrico Promenade, whose project is currently in the phase of simplified environmental impact assessment and which contemplates an execution period of 12 months with a base bid budget of 10.7 million euros.
The mayor of Molina de Segura thanked the government delegate and the president of the CHS for their presence and work to achieve some projects that, according to him, are one of the most important in his city, and recalled how badly the town suffered with the DANA of 2019.
“It was a very hard time for us, and I think that, with these two projects, and with the Rambla del Chorrico, much of the water problems in our municipality are solved. Therefore, we are very happy to be able to present them publicly,” said García.
The president of the CHS has valued the intense work carried out by the basin agency since the DANA of 2019 to defend the population of Molina de Segura and other points of the Mar Menor from the floods, and has thanked the work of his entire team for the public service it provides to society.
Urrea has indicated that the term of execution of these works of cañada of Mendoza and Morcillo is two years, although the works will be completed in one year. “The other year the contractor is given for the conservation and maintenance of all the plants and trees that we are going to plant to consolidate in the territory all this renaturalization network,” he concluded.
