January 12, 2023. The Special Operation of Christmas 2022-2023 of the DGT, developed between December 23 and January 8 to control the million trips registered on the roads of the Region of Murcia during this period, has concluded without fatalities and with an increase of 36% in the percentage of accidents with victims compared to the same device last year, in which one deceased was counted.
During these days there have been a total of thirty accidents on our roads with 54 victims, 45 of them of a mild nature, and nine that had to be admitted to the hospital.
“We must appreciate that this is the first year in which we have not had to mourn any mortal victims during a Christmas Special Operation, and we are the only autonomous community, together with Navarra and Extremadura, in which there have been no deaths as a result of sinister roads,” said Virginia Jerez, Provincial Traffic Chief.
The special device also included specific controls on the presence of alcohol and drugs in drivers. The Traffic Group of the Civil Guard conducted 6,751 alcohol tests, which recorded 78 positives, 1.15% of the total, and 110 drugs, with 48 positives, which represents 43.63%. On urban roads, no fatalities have been recorded either, unlike the same period last year, when three deaths were recorded.
