On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, the Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has highlighted the firm commitment of the Government of Spain to strengthen mental health care throughout the country and, especially, in Melilla.
“Talking about mental health is talking about rights, dignity and well-being. The Government of Spain has placed this priority at the center of its public policies, with a human and transversal approach that reinforces prevention, care and social awareness,” said Moh.
Within the framework of the Mental Health Action Plan 2025-2027, the Executive has allocated more than 250,000 euros to Melilla and Ceuta through the National Institute of Health Management (INGESA), with the aim of strengthening care resources and specialized teams in mental health.
In addition, the Government has approved an additional allocation of 118,000 euros for the implementation of the first Suicide Prevention Plan, a pioneering initiative that includes awareness campaigns, improved care in hospital emergencies, support for vulnerable groups and reinforcement of intervention teams.
“Mental health can no longer be a silenced or secondary issue: it requires investment, sensitivity and a solid public response”, stressed the Delegate of the Government, who recalled that the Council of Ministers has approved in recent months more than 57 million euros to promote mental health throughout the country, of which 39 million have been transferred to the autonomous communities and INGESA.
The Government, through the Ministry of Health, is currently promoting two major strategies: the Mental Health Action Plan 2025-2027, focused on improving care services, training professionals and inter-agency coordination; and the Suicide Prevention Plan 2025-2027, aimed at reducing risk factors and promoting the emotional well-being of citizens.
“The Spanish Government wants to send a clear message: taking care of mental health is taking care of life. It is a country commitment and a collective task in which we must all be involved,” he concluded.
