The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, accompanied by the Superior Chief of Police, José Antonio Togores, and the Regional Chief of Operations, José Ángel Sanz, has welcomed the 40 trainees of the 40th Promotion of the Basic Scale of the National Police who join Melilla to complete their training.
In total, there are 25 men and 15 women who during the next 10 months will serve in the Superior Police Headquarters of Melilla, where they will contribute to strengthening citizen security, complement border services and rotate through different operational units.
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city has highlighted the important work carried out by the agents of the National Police Force and, in particular, the personnel serving in the Headquarters of Melilla. In this regard, he pointed out that Melilla is a perfect territory to put into practice all the knowledge they have acquired and, “you are going to learn a lot”, he assured them.
Sabrina Moh has valued the interculturality of Melilla as a sign of identity and an enriching factor of coexistence. In this regard, he has pointed out the fundamental role played by police forces to protect coexistence, eradicate hate speech and preserve social peace. “Your work guarantees not only security, but also respect for the rights and freedoms of all,” he said.
The Delegate has also highlighted the exemplary coordination between the National Police, Civil Guard and Local Police in Melilla. “In our city there is a coordinated work that is vital, something that you will be able to observe at this stage,” he said.
On the other hand, he has stressed the important role played by the women and men of the Police. “You guarantee the security of the citizens so that we can all enjoy our rights and our freedom,” he said. In addition, he has indicated his conviction that the new agents in practice are going to do a magnificent job, while recalling that the Police is one of the institutions best valued by the citizens.
For his part, the Superior Chief of Police, José Antonio Togores, has encouraged the trainees to feel proud of belonging to a great institution such as the National Police Force and that they must take advantage of this period to train and learn from the experience of the veterans.
In addition, he stressed that this period should serve to “learn to make decisions.” “A good cop makes decisions when he has to make them,” he said. Although he has made it clear that they will have all the support and experience of the veterans and the entire Leadership of Melilla.
Togores has ratified that Melilla is a magnificent city to train and continue learning and has advanced that this period in Melilla “surely makes you better policemen”. But he has also assured them that their stay in the city will serve them to know one of the most beautiful cities in the country and to enjoy the full range of leisure and culture available.
The 40 trainees will remain in Melilla until the month of June 2026, when, once this training period has passed, they will swear their position at the National Police School of Ávila.
