The Government Delegation today welcomed a minute’s silence condemning the murder of Zunilda, 43 years old, in Malaga on 19 June 2025, and of Maritza, 61 years old, in Getafe, province of Madrid, on 24 June 2025, for gender violence, and reiterated its deepest condolences to their families and friends.
With these terrible murders, there are 16 women murdered by gender violence at the hands of their partner or ex-partner so far this year, and 11 minors who have been orphaned. With the confirmation of this case, the number of women killed by gender violence in Spain amounts to 1,310 since 2003, when these data began to be collected.
Since 2013, 64 children have been killed for gender-based violence against their mothers and 480 children have been orphaned by gender-based violence in Spain.
During the event, the Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, was in charge of reading the institutional declaration, stressing that “as a democratic society, we cannot tolerate any type of violence against women because they are women”.
“Male violence is a structural violence, based on sexist discrimination, inequality and imbalance in power relations between women and men,” he said, noting that violence against women and girls “violates their fundamental rights to life, liberty, physical and moral integrity, equality and dignity.”
Unity versus negationism
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city has stressed that “despite the negationist approaches of male violence, we are going to persevere and we are going to continue moving towards a more just, egalitarian society and free of male violence”. In this regard, it has called on all institutions, administrations and citizens to maintain this struggle based on unity, firmness and collective commitment.
From the Ministry of Equality, through the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, it is recalled that telephone 016 and the other services of attention and advice are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and are accessible to all people.
On the other hand, it is also recalled that in an emergency situation you can call 112 or the emergency telephones of the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062). In case it is not possible to make a call and in a situation of danger, you can use the ALERTCOPS application, from which an alert signal will be sent to the police with geolocation.
These means of assistance can be used both by victims and by anyone who knows or suspects a situation of gender violence.
