The Director General of Civil Protection and Emergencies, Virginia Barcones, is going to Melilla this afternoon to learn first-hand about the latest preparations for Operation Strait Pass (OPE) 2025, which is scheduled to begin this Sunday, June 15, with the start of the exit phase.
During his visit, Barcones will visit different strategic points of the operation, such as the border crossing of Beni-Enza and the port, to check on the ground the interinstitutional coordination and the operation of the services involved.
The Delegate of the Government in Melilla, Sabrina Moh, has stressed the relevance of this visit, “it is very important that the Director General of Civil Protection and Emergencies is in Melilla knowing in situ the reality of our city”. “His presence demonstrates, once again, the firm commitment of the Government of Spain to our land and to this large-scale operation such as the OPE,” he stressed.
Tomorrow, the Territorial Committee for Coordination, Management and Direction of OPE 2025 will be held, in which representatives of the different bodies, institutions and entities involved will participate. In this working session, the development of the preparations will be evaluated and the last details will be adjusted before the start of the operation.
OPE 2025
The OPE 2025 operation will begin on June 15, coinciding with the start of the exit phase, and will run until September 15. The return phase is scheduled to begin on July 15.
It should be recalled that the Committee was constituted on May 9, in a session that served to address the aspects related to the OPE and to transfer the guidelines of the National Plan, approved at the meeting of the State Coordination and Management Committee (CECOD), in which the Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, participated.
This first meeting made it possible to establish a first coordination framework among all the agencies involved in OPE 2025. At that time, a new meeting was held in the first half of this month with the aim of concretizing and adjusting the operational details.
