“Today, May 26, is a day to enter the Melilla calendar as the day that the most important infrastructure of our city is put into operation.”
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, on the occasion of the launch of the new University Hospital of Melilla (HUME) has welcomed the fact that Melilla citizens have at their service a health infrastructure 8 times greater than the Regional Hospital and with the latest state-of-the-art equipment. “Today is the day when we finally open the doors of this University Hospital. We have been working since we came to the Government in 2018 to be able to have operative the hospital that deserves Melilla citizenship, with an endowment of more than 150 million euros and with a pioneering aparatology in the market”, he stressed.
The head of the Government Delegation thanked all the staff “who during these almost seven years have been working tirelessly in each aspect to finally make the University Hospital of Melilla a reality” and stressed that Health “is one of the fundamental pillars and one of the objectives of this Government since Pedro Sánchez arrived in La Moncloa”.
In fact, Moh has had words of express thanks for Pedro Sánchez and has remembered when he came, without still being President of the Government to our city, “and said that if he arrived in La Moncloa in less than six months the works of the hospital would resume. And so it was.” “It hasn’t been six months since he arrived in La Moncloa when this hospital restarted work after seven years of paralysis,” he recalled.
“And the follow-up that the President has done in the first person, that commitment that he acquired with the Melillense citizenship, today has materialized with this result, with this hospital,” he said.
Day to celebrate
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city stressed that today is a “day to celebrate” and recalled that “today we already see that this hospital, which we have visited on numerous occasions, there are professionals and users around here, already operating, and therefore, it is a day of pride, because it is a team project”.
In her speech to the media, Sabrina Moh has highlighted the fact that she increases the portfolio of services and that she will make sure that many of the derivations that were made so far do not have to be made.
He has also had words of praise for the health staff. “They are an engine and a fundamental piece, because the working conditions of all the staff are improved and, therefore, they increase and also improve the services that are given to the Melillense citizens.”
In addition, the Delegate has advanced that the Government of Spain will continue to work on the path of continuing to improve all health resources. In this regard, he recalled that the Executive of Pedro Sánchez “is making an unprecedented bet to get as many places as possible and to be able to count on professionals that, in turn, we are going to want to incorporate here in our ranks, obviously”. “We have covered 100% of the MIR squares and we are going to continue working on this path,” he said.
During the coming months, the new Hospital will coexist with the Regional Hospital since the two hospitals will be operating simultaneously “You cannot open the entire hospital, the entire infrastructure in one day and, therefore, now it will be done progressively, the different plants will be opened, the different services will be increased”, he explained.
