The Social Center for the Elderly has celebrated, once again, its traditional Easter dessert contest, a date long awaited by the users of the center, who have once again demonstrated their culinary talent and enthusiasm to keep the traditions alive.
The activity has had a great participation by the members, who made typical sweets of these dates such as rice with milk, donuts, torrijas, flan and calatrava cake. Once the evaluation of the jury was completed, all the members were able to enjoy a tasting.
The event was attended by the Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, and the Territorial Director of the Institute of Seniors and Social Services (Imserso), Verónica Aznar, who were able to taste the variety of desserts made by the members.
During her speech, the Government Delegate stressed the importance of carrying out these activities, “which keep this center so alive”, and thanked the workers and partners for their commitment. “It is a pleasure to see the affection with which these activities are prepared,” he said.
The highest representative of the Government of Spain in the city has underscored the importance of keeping the center alive with proposals such as this one as “this type of initiatives not only preserve our traditions, but strengthen the ties between the elderly and their environment.”
But not only that, Sabrina Moh has reaffirmed her commitment to the Social Center for Seniors and has shown her support and collaboration as it is necessary to continue promoting all these types of activities, “which in the end always have a positive impact on citizens.”
For her part, the Territorial Director of Imserso, has pointed out that this activity is one of the most expected by users at this time. “Many had been preparing their recipes with the help of family members for days,” he said, while explaining that “these initiatives allow the elderly to live Holy Week from the center, especially those who have mobility difficulties.”
Aznar has highlighted the active role of the elders themselves in planning the life of the center. “The activities are designed for them, but also for them,” he explained, referring to the recently renewed Participatory Governance Board. In addition, he has said that the center is already working on new lines of action to address challenges such as unwanted loneliness, especially relevant in this group.
