The Provincial Director of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD) in Melilla, Elena Fernández Treviño, gave a training talk on violence through social networks to students of the Degree in Social Education of the University of Granada.
As the Provincial Director explained, it is “a topic of great relevance in today’s society.” “Through this training we want to prepare students to face their next professional practices, addressing the risks, consequences and intervention strategies in situations of digital violence,” he said.
During the meeting that took place last Tuesday, March 4, Fernández Treviño, highlighted the importance of identifying and preventing behaviors such as sexual violence through social networks or cyberbullying. “Now we are facing a reality that tends more towards the virtual, and in that scenario new problems arise that we must address,” he said.
“We face, among other issues, the non-consensual dissemination of images or information, as well as platforms that enclose new forms of sexual exploitation,” he said. In addition, he has warned that “patriarchal roles permeate and are reproduced through mobiles and online hate speech.”
The highest representative of the MEFPyD in our city has provided practical ideas and tools so that future generations of Social Educators can detect and address these problems in their professional work, promoting a responsible and safe use of social networks among young people and other vulnerable groups.
The students, who are in the phase prior to the realization of their practices, valued the initiative positively, showing a high participation. “It is essential that future professionals are prepared to face the challenges posed by the digital era in the social and educational field,” he stressed.
Finally, the Provincial Director thanked the teaching staff of the University of Granada and the students for their participation each year in these training activities.
