Asier Gómez has been the winner of the second edition of the Regional Computer Olympiad, which took place this afternoon at the IES Leopoldo Queipo, and will therefore represent Melilla in the national contest that will be held from April 4 to 6 in La Coruña.
The Provincial Director of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD) in Melilla, Elena Fernández Treviño, who has moved to the educational center to follow the test and support the participants, has thanked the center for its involvement.
In this sense, he has congratulated the educational centers that are involved in this type of Olympics, “which are a way to promote and study all the pedagogical through other activities that motivate them in the end to participate and continue learning”.
With regard to the test that has been carried out this afternoon, the Provincial Director of Education has pointed out that the programming subject is practically being implemented in the new cycles and in the new studies and, with this type of activities, outside of the proper teaching, “students are encouraged to continue participating, and when they attend the national phase, they also meet other students from other centers and continue wanting to investigate and grow this professional field.”
This second edition has involved the attendance of twelve students, which is twice as many participants as in last year’s edition, for which he congratulated the coordinator, Carlos Campoy, for the growth of this Olympics. “There are already many Olympics that are made of different subjects and we celebrate that this is growing in the city of Melilla,” he acknowledged.
Programming exercises
As Campoy explained, the test consisted of twelve programming exercises, ranging from very simple to some more complex, mainly of algorithms.
The participants, who have been from the Middle Degree Training Cycle and ESO, have had three programming languages, in C++, in Java or in Python. “Each of the exercises could solve it in any of these three languages,” he said, and said that the students were able to see, through a screen, the classification in real time to develop the competition between them, since they were able to look at the screen to see where they are.
After Asier Gómez, who won this edition, Hassan Bouchih and Mohamed Mohamed, were the second and third ranked, respectively. All three have been given a diploma and a trophy.
