The Head of the Coordination Unit against Violence against Women of the Government Delegation in Melilla, Laura Segura, is participating in the IX Congress of the Observatory against Domestic and Gender Violence, which is held in Madrid on 7 and 8 November.
This event brings together experts and professionals in the fight against gender and domestic violence to exchange experiences, analyze advances and propose new intervention and prevention strategies in this field.
The congress seeks to promote collaboration between institutions and social actors in the defense of the rights of victims and the eradication of gender violence, a problem that remains a priority on the social and political agenda in Spain.
Progress and challenges
The Observatory’s congresses have been held biennially since 2003, except for edition number VIII, which was held in 2022 instead of in 2020, as a result of the health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the two days of the IX Congress, advances in the fight against male violence will be analyzed, as well as challenges for the future; the situation of victims with disabilities will be addressed due to their greater vulnerability; and forms of violence such as genital mutilation, sexual violence and prostitution will be discussed.
The new technological tools in this area, the risk factors and the effectiveness of programs aimed at aggressors will also be analyzed. Gender violence in the field of childhood and adolescence, with special attention to vicarious violence and specific attention to minors, will also be one of the issues to be addressed.
