The Provincial Director of Education, Juan Ángel Berbel, attended in the afternoon the CEE Reina Sofía to the formal inauguration of the project of Educational Centers for the Promotion of Physical Activity and Sport (CEPAFD).
As explained by the head of the Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD) of Melilla, for this extracurricular educational action 8 monitors have been hired, who attend 2 groups of 20 students, each, from Monday to Thursday, from 16:00 to 18:00 hours.
“One of the objectives established in the program is social cohesion, apart from inclusiveness and attention to diversity,” said Berbel, who has reported that students from CEIP Real-CEIP Hippodrome have been located together; CEIP Encarna Leon-CEIP Spain; CEIP León Solá-CEIP Juan Caro-CEIP Mediterráneo; and CEE Reina Sofía
“At the end of the course there will be a closure with a joint presentation of all the students included in the Program and that will serve, without competitive eagerness, for the promotion of the base sport among the little ones,” he announced.
“There is no doubt that regular participation in physical and sports activities provides children and adolescents with multiple health benefits, including better bone health and improved physical and cardiovascular fitness,” said Berbel.
The Provincial Director of Education has defended the realization of sports activities as being “a key aspect to combat obesity and other ailments typical of a sedentary life, an aspect that worries us, by allocating many young people more time to the abusive use of social networks, rather than to physical activity, when it has been shown that this affects a favorable correlation with academic performance”.
On the other hand, he added, “practicing group sport, promotes social roots, improves coexistence and the feeling of belonging, without distinction of social class”.
The project is developed jointly thanks to the collaboration established between the Provincial Directorate of the MEFPyD and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, which thanked all the technical staff of the Sports Area of the Ministry of Education who met with the advisers of the Educational Programs Unit, from July to resume a program that worked very well from its implementation until the 2018-2019 academic year, and which has always been kept in mind as beneficial for the students.
Likewise, the coordination work carried out by Miguel Martínez Duarte, the faculty of the discipline in the different CEIPS where it has been offered for the selection of the participants and the monitors hired for its execution, to which basic guidelines of action of the philosophy of the Program were provided, starting on Tuesday, October 8. Its duration will be extended until the month of May.
