On October 1, the International Day of the Elderly is commemorated and on the occasion of such an important event, the centers of the Imserso are going to dress up to celebrate it and to value the figure of the elderly as well as to encourage a change in the care and attention of the elderly.
The Territorial Director of Imserso, Verónica Aznar, addressed this issue in the program Viento de Levante of Television Melilla, in which she pointed out that it is about putting older people “in the first line” and taking them into account “because they still have a lot to contribute in addition to having an overflowing activity and certainly very interesting proposals”.
“The elderly must feel protagonists of our history and their history and this week and the next ones we will have different activities where the work they are doing throughout the year in the Senior Center is going to be highlighted, or activities that they like a lot like gastronomy, with tortillas and crumbs contests”, he explained.
“Meals are a reason for meeting and sharing, enlivened by music, which they love”, he said and said that both centres – the Social Centre for Older People and the Multipurpose Centre for Services for Older People – are going to be mutually involved in the activities that are being developed in each of them, to which the assistance centre will also be added in some of the activities.
Aznar has also valued the work done by the professionals of the Imserso and has referred to the importance of them also “being part of this week and this month, of the first line, because in the end they are the hands and the heart that take care of the elderly”.
“These are very special days that we share together,” said Aznar, who has indicated that there will also be family members, so in the Residence there will be a special snack with family members, accompanied by an accordion, which is an activity that has already been carried out last year and that was very endearing.
As explained by the Territorial Director of Imserso, each center has its Board of Government, “which is the voice of the mayor in each of the centers” and “being receptive to the suggestions they are making to us also serves to assess what activities they like most and allows us to be open to any proposal they are making to us and make a strategy regarding the program of each of the centers”.
Therefore, he pointed out that the activities carried out are “the fruit of everyone, both professionals and the management teams of both centers, as well, of course, our elders who continue to contribute and who are demanding activities and meetings that they fill and where they are protagonists”.
Exhibitions and music
On Tuesday, the activities began at the Social Center of Seniors with the inauguration of an exhibition of objects made by the users themselves as well as memories of them.
Yesterday, on the same stage, a lunch of the mayor took place, in which it was used to deliver two commemorative plates to the two most veteran users of the Center, José Ruiz and Martina López.
The event was attended by, in addition to the Director of the Center, Ramón Paqué, the Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh; the Territorial Director of the Imserso, Verónica Aznar; and the Director of the Multipurpose Center for Services for Older People, Ibrahim Molina.
