The Government of Spain has already mobilized 80,745 homes under the Affordable Rental Housing Plan (PVAA), which aims to enable 184,000 homes for social rent or at affordable prices. Specifically, 114 homes have been set up in our city.
The figure is reached just over a year after the implementation of this Plan, highlighting the Program to Build Social or Affordable Rental Housing in Energy-Efficient Buildings of the Recovery Plan, which has exceeded its expectations by more than 20% of what was agreed with the European Commission.
Social rental housing construction program
Through the Social Rental Housing Construction Assistance Program in energy-efficient buildings, the Government of Spain has allocated 1,410,000 euros to Melilla for the construction of 48 housing units.
Through this aid plan, MIVAU aims to finance the increase in the public housing stock for social rent or affordable housing, through new construction promotions on publicly owned land. These homes will be part of the public park for a minimum period of 50 years and their consumption of non-renewable primary energy must be at least 20% lower than the requirements required in the Technical Building Code. The works must be completed by June 30, 2026.
SEPES mobilizes 66 homes
By agreement of the Council of Ministers, on May 9, 2023, it was approved to allocate up to 8.25 million m2 of public land owned by the Ministry of Defense in disuse to promote urban development and the promotion of affordable housing.
Specifically, it was approved that MIVAU, through the Public Entity of Soils (SEPES), acquired these soils from Defensa to build 66 houses in Gabriel de Morales in Melilla. To this must be added the recent acquisition by SEPES of Defense land in the city worth 10.3 million euros for the construction of more than 220 affordable homes.
