This morning the Government Delegation hosted a meeting with all the agents involved in Operation Strait Pass (OPE) for the constitution of the Territorial Coordination, Management and Direction Committee of OPE 2024.
A meeting that has served to address the aspects related to this operation and transfer the guidelines of the National Plan to the territory to the attendees of the meeting.
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, who has chaired the Commission, highlighted the fact that the Director General of Civil Protection and Emergencies, Virginia Barcones, moved a few weeks ago to our city to hold meetings with the some leaders and to know first-hand the reality of the OPE in our city.
This year, as a novelty, there is an advance of the beginning of the OPE, from June 15 to June 13, on the occasion of the Feast of the Sacrifice, so it foresees a greater transit of people and vehicles through the Beni-Start pass during those days, until its end on September 15.
Another issue that has been addressed, and in which it will be deepened in future meetings, is the adequacy of the schedules of the shipowners as well as the organization of the pre-shipment to them.
The provision of water points, shade and baths for the citizens for the waits as well as the pocketing areas of the vehicles have been, as in other occasions, topics discussed.
In terms of health, health personnel will serve during the OPE in the Port with 5 personnel 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
As every year, External Health participates in the ordinary inspection of ships, as well as in the installation of informative posters on health standards. In addition, this year, as a novelty, QR codes will be included so that passengers can make surveys aimed at improving the services provided.
The Maritime Station and the Port Authority will be responsible for adapting the spaces intended for shipments and pre-shipments and passenger areas. Thus, tents will be installed in the pre-boarding area and the station will be open 24 hours a day during the month of August. In addition, the Navieras will have a reinforcement during the weekends.
This meeting, in addition to making a general focus of the entire OPE, has served to address specific issues of Operation Exit, so they have been placed for a new meeting that is dedicated more thoroughly to Operation Return.
The meeting, in addition to the Government Delegate, was attended by the Territorial Coordinator and Head of the Civil Protection Unit of the Government Delegation, Mohamed Mohamed; and representatives of the Territorial Directorate of the Ingesa; of the Civil Guard Command; of the Superior Police Headquarters; of the Local Police; of the Functional Area of External Health; of the Port Authority of Melilla; of the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainability; of the Ministry of Maritime Infrastructure, Town Planning and Transport; and of the Balearic and Maritime Quality Companies. In addition, the Secretary General of the Government Delegation, Sana Abdeslam, has served as secretary of the Territorial Committee.
