The Head of the Coordination Unit Against Violence Against Women of the Government Delegation in Melilla, Laura Segura, has highlighted the importance of working to eliminate inequalities in educational centers from an early age.
“We must work, from the earliest ages, on the elimination of these walls that do not allow, in many cases, girls to become what they want, but also the children themselves,” he said.
“Those stereotypes, those gender backpacks that little by little have to be emptied and this is done by the educational centers, the teachers of the centers and those responsible for equality through coeducation,” he stressed and pointed out that it is necessary to “balance that balance and put equality above all as a fundamental basis when it comes to education.”
The Head of the Unit, together with the Provincial Director of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD), Juan Ángel Berbel, and other heads of the Provincial Directorate, wanted to show their support for the IV Walk For and For Equality organized by the CEIP ‘Hippodrome’ and in which a dozen educational centers in the city have collaborated.
Segura explained that this initiative is part of the awareness-raising activities carried out by the Melilla educational centers on equality and, in turn, also on awareness and prevention against gender violence, which “is the most terrible manifestation of inequality between men and women”.
Laura Segura congratulated the CEIP ‘Hippodrome’ for this activity, “which is exceeded every year, with more activities”, while thanking the other educational centers for their participation, as well as the families of the students and the girls and boys who have participated “who are the main truths”. He has also had words of thanks for the people and entities who have collaborated today in the realization of this event.
Haka and music
The activity, which took place in the Multifunctional Plaza, has started with the reading of a manifesto in favor of equality and has given way to a ‘haka’ against male violence by the hand of the students of the CEIP ‘León Solá’.
Students of the CEIP ‘Velázquez’ have read letters “to women who inspire” and, after them, Lola Padial has delighted the attendees with the song ‘Que nada’ by Manuel Carrasco.
The attendees of the event have had real examples to follow such as the champions of Torreblanca CF, the teacher, poet and writer Encarna León or the directors Alejandra Nogales and Arantxa Mansilla.
After them, it was the turn of the performance of the Merche Hurtado Color Ballet and the interventions of different directors of the centers that have participated today. Although the brooch has come from the hands of the students present who have sung “the song for equality”.
