The Centro Base del Imserso has commemorated today the 35th anniversary since its inception, three and a half decades of public service developing basic care programs for people with disabilities in Melilla.
The Delegate of the Government, Sabrina Moh, has stressed that “35 years are not observed every day” and has pointed out that this tour of activity is “a more than evident sample of the work that has been carried out throughout this time in favor of the Melillense citizenship”.
“The base center is a center that goes far beyond a certain attention or a certain public service to the citizens, but it is a support center, a center where everyone can come to not only have all the resources available to the citizens, but also to be able to overcome, receive that necessary orientation, training, advice… the staff who work here offers a professional service, but, in addition, a human attention,” he stressed.
For this reason, the highest representative of the Government of Spain in our city has thanked all the people who have worked in this center since its inception and those who do it today. Some professionals, he said, “are overcoming, improving services every day, who, with their dedication, commitment and dedication, try to provide answers day by day and even overcome the challenges, challenges and obstacles that we have been finding throughout this time”.
Moh thanked and congratulated both the Territorial Director of the Imserso, Verónica Aznar, and all her team, and the Director of the Base Center, Teresa Rizo, as well as all the staff who have served for the work they have done and that has made it possible for today to commemorate the 35th anniversary of this center.
The Delegate has also had words of thanks for the users, their families and all the citizens “who always have this center that is also very well valued”.
“Behind each of the attentions, behind each of the files, behind each of the numbers, we find people, lives and stories of improvement, and therefore from here my public recognition,” he said.
The Delegate thanked the Deputy Director of Planning, Guidance and Evaluation of the Imserso, Esther Pérez de Vargas, for having moved to Melilla for the anniversary and the entire team of the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2023 “that always supports all the activities that are carried out, not only in the Base Center, but of the entire Imsero”.
In addition to conveying their gratitude and public recognition “to each and every one of what they have done, it is possible that we are here today, celebrating this 35th anniversary”, Sabrina Moh has shown her desire that the center will continue to fulfill many more years “because I am sure that, with the professionalism, dedication and commitment that the people who serve in this center always have, we will achieve many more years”.
Professionalism and sensitivity
The Territorial Director of the Imserso, Verónica Aznar, for her part, has valued the activity carried out, on a daily basis, in this center, which, in addition to informing and training citizens, “is attended with a professionalism and sensitivity that I would like to highlight”.
In this way, he thanked all the professionals who have passed through the center during all these years and thanks to whom “today this important service is offered to groups with so much vulnerability”.
As Aznar has said, throughout the year, this center has about 19,000 attentions, but this year the figure has increased by 30%. “We are talking about 24,000 attentions that are made in a year”, he said, ranging from actions for the recognition of disability, information, advice, technical aids for subsidies, early care…
Precisely on this issue, the Territorial Director has advanced that they will continue to work for the implementation of a second early care team in the afternoon, which will respond to all requests from children from 0 to 6 years old.
“Thanks to the Employment Plans we made a pilot project in 2023, but we want that, with the commitment of the Delegate and the General Direction of Imserso, it will be firm by 2024 and that we can expand the staff of early care, that we can bet on greater psychological, pedagogical, physical care… for children with disabilities,” he said.
Recognitions
In the act, a plaque was given to Rosa Godrid and María Dolores Díaz, for their 25 years of service as center workers, as well as a gift to Matías Mellado, Pedro Sánchez Zambrano and Timoteo González, all center workers who have retired in recent years.
A plaque has also been given to the former Territorial Director of the Imserso and who has also just retired, Curra Coll, as well as a gift reminder of this anniversary to the workers of these last 5 years.
To finish the event, a theatrical performance has taken place in which the story of how these three and a half decades of history of the center has been recounted in a funny way, through two actresses who represented cleaning professionals.
