If the City Development Council gives the first occupation, the transfer to the CEIP ‘Encarna León’ will be made taking advantage of the Holy Week school break.
This was announced by the Provincial Director of the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPyD), Juan Ángel, this lunchtime in an interview granted to the COPE Network, in which he explained that the last two remaining repairs - on the stairs that go on the access road to the sports tracks of the center - were finished last Wednesday.
“Throughout this week, the Technical Direction of the Work will verify that they have indeed been executed according to the technical report that was prepared in September by the Ministry of Development and, if everything is in accordance with the indicated, we will formally request the first occupation license again,” he said.
Therefore, Berbel has pointed out that if the City gives them the license of first occupation before Easter, “we could play with that vacation period” so that the management team of the center can carry out the move. Something, he said, that is not going to be very complex given that “there are already many things that have been taken to the new facilities”.
In addition, Berbel recalled that right now it would be the transfer of only 309 students, who are currently enrolled in the Modular Classrooms, and that, the building they are going to occupy, is right in front of where they are currently attending the Santiago quarry.
Asked about the future of Modular Classrooms, the Provincial Director has indicated that, when it comes to a school, ownership of the property becomes municipal, so it will be the Autonomous City that determines the use of this plot, although Berbel has recognized that he would like an educational purpose to be given.
In this regard, he pointed out that, although these are prefabricated classrooms, they have a good quality, which entailed an investment of 1.7 million euros and which gave a useful life span of around 25 years.
“This location could respond to about 150-200 children in the children’s school section, that is from 0 to 3 years old, where the city has such a need,” he suggested.
Employment plans
In another order of things, the head of the Provincial Directorate of Education has been asked about the new Employment Plans, which will be implemented by the Government Delegation and which, in this edition, will allocate 699 competency profiles to the Education project.
“There are 35 competency profiles, 21 of them directly related to Vocational Training and Artistic Education courses that we have in the city”, he reported, while pointing out that this is the most powerful program that the Employment Plans have with an economic memory of 7,600,000 euros. “When they are put into operation, they are a very important support for schools,” he said.
Juan Ángel Berbel, in relation to these Plans, has reported that one of the proposals that were addressed with the management teams at the meeting held in the Government Delegation, was to optimize the summer time. “We consider that this city, due to sociodemographic, cultural, economic characteristics… there is an excessively long period from mid-June to mid-September, where there is no intellectual stimulus during that vacation period,” he said.
Hence the proposal to take advantage of July to be able to “do activities at a more playful level, but activities related to teaching, thanks to the support teachers we hire through the Employment Plans”, such as the teachers of Primary Education, Children, English...
“Workshops could be held with Physical Education monitors, which are two profiles that we hired, both those of Superior Technicians in Animation of Physical and Sports Activities (TAFADs) and Technicians in Driving Physical and Sports Activities (TECOs), and do recreational activities in a more relaxed environment, but without completely disconnecting from the lessons that have been transmitted throughout the course,” he said.
Template stabilization
Another issue that has been addressed in the radio interview has been the opposition. As Berbel explained, the entrance exams for this year are published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) of December 30, 2022, by which the stabilization procedures are called, by the opposition contest system.
“This year it’s up to the teachers and we get places for the seven specialties,” he said, while recalling that “it’s an opportunity for 65 people to achieve the stated goal of overcoming this selective process.”
“There is no qualifying part, it is a merit-stabilising and opposition contest without a qualifying part and, except for a specialty such as music, there will be no practical assumptions either,” he said.
